Job Summary
Carlow County Council invites applications for the post of Research Outreach Education Officer. The Research Outreach Education Officer will work under the control and supervision of the Museum Curator. The focus will be on documenting, cataloguing, researching, maintaining an orderly system of collections management, displays and storage of the large museum collection. Working as part of a team in day-to-day operations of the Museum including assisting with the provision of guided tours, arranging outreach education programs and events and providing customer service to the Museum’s visitors. Promote the work of the Museum and an awareness of its services. Work to Carlow County Council, Carlow County Museum standards as well as those of the National Museum of Ireland Designation, and of the Heritage Council Museum Standards Programme for Ireland (MSPI)

Each candidate must have, on the latest date for receipt of completed application forms:
- A third level qualification in History, Heritage, Museum Studies or related discipline is desirable but not essential.
- Relevant experience of documenting, researching and caring for museum collections or similar such collections.
- Knowledge of museum practice and of the Irish museum sector.
- Excellent written, verbal, communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Ability to set priorities, take initiative, and work independently, as appropriate.
- Good IT skills and commitment to utilising new technologies in the workplace.
The holder of the post shall hold a full driving licence for class B vehicles free from endorsement/disqualification. When required to do so, holders of the office shall drive a motor car in the course of their duties and for this purpose, provide and maintain a car to the satisfaction of the local authority.
