Job Summary

The Research & Education Officer shall work as part of the Council’s Culture & Creativity Team. They must undertake those duties as assigned to them by Museum Curator and Senior Executive Officer with responsibility for Arts & Culture. The Research & Educational Officer shall also report to the Director of Service of the section to which they are assigned or any other person designated by the Director of Service.
The person appointed shall carry out such duties relating to the working of the Museum, Arts/Library services of the Local Authority as may be assigned to him/her from time to time.

Duties & Responsibilities

The following list is not meant to be an exhaustive list and is provided only as a guidance note on the types of activities which the successful candidate will be required to undertake.

  • Specialist in Historical Research
  • Devise, develop and deliver, Museum Education Programmes for schools, adults and special needs groups.
  • Tour Guiding for; Special Interest Groups, Schools and Historical Societies.
  • Research, writing and production of panels for Museum Exhibitions
  • Interpret, research and convey information on the collection.
  • Assist with the Museum’s Accreditation and Maintenance requirements under the Heritage Council’s Museum Standard’s Programme
  • Installation, design of both permanent and travelling exhibitions.
  • To undertake other Museum related duties as required.
  • Duty on week-ends, public holidays or at night, as required, will be an integral part of the working week.
  • Undertake any other duties of a similar level and responsibilities as may be required from time to time.

Each candidate must, on the latest date for receipt of completed application forms

  • Have a Degree in History, Archaeology or related discipline
    And
  • Proven capacity to meet the reporting and administrative aspects of the post.
  • Experience of researching historical themes /cultural issues.
  • Ability to work in a team and with minimal direction.
  • Experience of public speaking and delivering presentations.
  • Excellent communication skills, oral and written.
  • A sound knowledge of information technology.
  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • Full clean driving license and access to a car.
