Job Summary
To source, purchase and expedite the receipt of material goods at the best price, terms and delivery schedule according to instructions, experience and knowledge of production needs; assist in maintaining inventories at desired levels; provide price quotations for production materials, MRO supplies, non-routine materials, etc. to meet the demands of the business.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Responsible for sourcing products, purchasing and expediting the receipt of materials for production orders, MRO supplies, etc. that meet the required quantity and quality expectations
- Facilitate the purchase of capital items and/or support services
- Source and qualify new materials suppliers as may be required
- Negotiates price, credit terms, discounts, contracts and delivery schedules with suppliers
- Spot check current goods with comparable industry suppliers to ensure appropriate pricing
- Manages supplier relations and established Supplier partnerships
- Manages all back orders, late or short deliveries. Protects production in an effective manner
- Inspects all damaged or incorrectly received goods and informs suppliers and AP so that corrective action can be taken and supplier credits can be assigned
- In matters pertaining to purchasing and inventory, contributes information and ideas for the development and monitoring of the company’s budget
- Prepares financial and non-financial analyses, reports and forecasts
- Assists in updating company’s published product price book for any changes in product line, product specifications and price
- Analyzes daily production schedule/forecast to determine requirement
- Oversee raw component replenishment requirements (Kanban system)
- Drive cost reduction initiatives for procured components and services to support Airia’s business goals
- Conduct supplier risk analysis and implement risk mitigation strategies
- Continuously improve existing procurement systems and tools and/or develop new systems and tools to enhance the effectiveness of procurement efforts.
- Implement Lean Initiatives and promote 5S
Experience, Requirements
- Knowledge of company’s products
- Knowledge of Purchasing ethics, concepts and practices
- Proven experience negotiating and managing contracts
- Knowledge of effective negotiation skills and how to apply them to the standard business transaction
- Ability to efficiently multi-task and schedule priorities
- Self-motivated, detail oriented, and the ability to process confidential and controlled information
- Effective problem-solving; ability to solve complex problems independently and quickly
- Good organization skills to plan and control inventory
- Self-confidence and ability to manage own activities
- ERP system experience is a must (Syspro ideal), advanced working knowledge of MS Excel skills including pivot tables, lookups, formulas, macros, etc
- Excellent mathematical and data entry skills
- Ability to readily learn and adapt to computer systems / applications
- Able to work in a high pressure, fast-paced environment and responds to sense of urgency
- Professional and clear communication skills - written and verbal
- Strong organization skills and highly detail oriented
- Proven knowledge in lean manufacturing
- Must be knowledgeable in all facets of the company’s operations
- Influential interpersonal skills that build positive and strong relationships at all levels of the organization
- Ability to make decisions and recommendations that are clearly linked to the organization’s strategy and goals
- Post-Secondary Education in Material Management field, Purchasing or Supply Chain Management
- Minimum 3 years of related experience or 10 years in manufacturing environment capacity in scheduling /supervising
- Demonstrated practice in Lean Manufacturing
